Closer Look - January Vol. 1 2011

A monthly newsletter on the Lafayette Jeff wrestling program in their quest for a “STATE CHAMPIONSHIP”

As we begin the new decade, the Broncho coaching staff and team would like to extend a “HAPPY NEW YEAR” to all of our wrestling family. We hope this year will prove to be a prosperous and joyous one for you and your family.

This newsletter is the beginning of our mission to spread the word about the Lafayette Jeff wrestling program. Our goal, for this decade, is to create a culture that is “loyal and committed” to the great sport of wrestling. We feel strongly that

“THOSE WHO STAY WILL BECOME CHAMPIONS”

As the 2010-2011 season makes the turn and begins our final push towards the state tournament series, we would like to take a closer look at what has transpired thus far in the season.

During the season we have taken many unchartered twists and turns, faced many challenges, and absorbed setbacks that have made our team strive harder to achieve success. During my 27 year varsity career, I have not seen as many season ending injuries. This year our team has had three varsity wrestlers experience those kinds of setbacks.

Lost for the season are seniors Chad Staley, a back injury, and Daniel Stanton, an ankle injury requiring surgery; both of these seniors will not experience the state tournament due to those injuries. We also lost freshman Nathan Whaley to a head injury after our first competition and are unsure when he will return to competition. Minor injuries have also cost us to lose a varsity wrestler in 53 individual matches from our line-up. However, our 13 seniors have worked hard to keep this team together and competitive against our toughest opponents.

As January is upon us and we approach our final regular season dual competition, we have achieved one of our season goals – twenty dual wins. Our current record is 22-11 on the year. This marks the fifth time in eight years that we have achieved this goal.

Our final regular season competition will be Saturday, January 8, with our “Senior Duals” in the Blind Gym. We would like to extend an invitation for you to attend this meet, which begins at 9:00 am on Saturday morning. If you are unable to attend we hope to broadcast this event over our student-run radio station, Jeff-92 (FM 91.9). We will be making history with this broadcast and will “Twittering” the result for the first time after each round. Twitter Name: JeffHSWrestling

In closing, let me encourage you to continue your support of the Broncho wrestling program and let me also say that it is the “greatest honor” to be the head wrestling coach at Lafayette Jeff High School. If I can assist in answering any questions you might have about our program, please feel free to contact me at Lafayette Jeff High School, 765.772.4700 ext. 2611 or call/text me at 765.714.0713.
